Try around the Appliance stores like Fretters. They frequently
have big EPS blocks from mega-TV's etc. They were recently happy
to part with old packaging that a couple of DEC windsurfers used
for board padding (heading for the Colombia river).
BTW. Styrofoam/EPS waterlogs pretty quickly without a protective skin.
The barrels work better. I saw these for sale at a farm stand
on my route home from Acton > Nashua last fall (Rte 119) bu my memory
is too hazy to pinpoint the location!

Colin

| I think the VeryFine juice co. in Littleton, Mass., sells plastic
barrels.

| I saw styrofoam blocks that are meant for docks in a circular
recently. I think it was from Steinback (sp) & Sons of Salem, NH.
I will look for the circular tonight and reply on Monday if you
haven't found any by then.

| If Styrofoam will do the trick, why not just use regular Styrofoam insulation
board? This stuff can be had in at least 2" thickness (and maybe thicker -
I've never tried to find out) and is made in 2' x 8' T&G sheets. Should be
pretty quick to use. There is also a rigid urethane foam insulation that
can be had in 3" thickness (again, "at least"), although I don't know how
easily it might waterlog. It would seem as though "strapping" multiple
thicknesses of any of these materials under a raft would work well.
