    try vinyl-side home improvement in manchester. I just had a 
    two car garage with a 22 X 24 ft room addition completed by
    them. they give a 5 year warranty on their work. they will
    allow you to subcontract anything you want. i'd get my own
    foundation people though as the clowns he hired were total
    losers. they ended up redoing half the foundation before i
    would let them build. 
    
    the guys are good and fast, and the materials are first rate
    (no particle board, double glazed windows that come out for
    cleaning etc).
    
    they came very highly recommended. the phone numbers are

    one of the salepersons. I'm very happy with the work.

    After requesting several bids, we went with Insulpro from Derry,
    NH. Their bid was equal to the others, but included removing the
    old masonite siding (warped, cracked, and mildew stained in
    spots). After they started, we decided to have the window casings
    covered with aluminum, and they added very little to the overall
    cost. The job took a little longer than expected, but we're very
    happy with the results.
     

    I thought I'd put a recommendation in for the guy that did our siding
    on our 3 family.  His name is Lyndon Johnson of LBJ Window and Door
    located in Pepperell.  The phone number is 617-433-8980.
    
    He must have done a great job on our house because our next door
    neighbor liked it so much that she had him do hers, and recommended
    him to her daughter and sister.  The work is good, and the price
    was reasonable.
    
    I've also had him do a few replacement windows, and I've been very
    pleased.
                     

    We recently had our home vinyl sided by Welmark Construction out
    of Worcester.  Mark Landberg the owner came and measured our home
    spent a great deal of time with us reviewing various material options,
    application, timing and cost.  He's very knowledgeable and stands
    behind his work.  This company was recommended by a fellow employ
    who had Welmark install windows in his home and was extremely pleased
    with the quality and workmanship.  Mark left with us an extensive
    list (over 10 pages) of referrals - this list included names and
    addresses, telephone #, and the kind of work they did.  I called
    about 6 of his customers who were very pleased with his work.  We
    chose the most expensive 3" vinyl that he sold - you can't tell
    the difference from wood.  The home is around 2500 sq. ft. and has
    a double attached garage.  The home was previously covered with
    a fiber board type of shingle that was 13 years old and was beginning
    to heave.  Welmark also installed vinyl shutters for us.  Our home
    is much quieter now and one aggravating problem - heating water
    pipe freezing was totally eliminated.

    He has installed vinyl siding, trim. and gutters for myself and my neighbors
    so I am very familiar with his work.

    I just had an addition put on. The existing house has aluminum siding
    but chose to go with vinyl on the addition. I hired a person name
    Sean Graham 603-883-1440 and was extremely happy with the results.
    I do plan on having him do the rest of the house, in vinyl, next
    year.
    Sean is very meticulous and the cost seemed very reasonable for
    what he did.
    I recommend him highly.

We had some Vinyl siding put up on our house in Natick Mass. by a 
local company called CARLTON Siding and the Owner/Salesperson
seem to be the best of a variety of folks we talked to and he did
not seems to think doing our house as we desired would be a problem.

However our house is an English Style Tudor and we want the 
Wooden beams outside of the house which essentially sets the
style to be done in non-vinyle and Aluminum was the choice.

Now that the work is done we are not satisfied with the work
(we still owe him at least half of the contracted $$$$) and
although he is willing to eat some of the costs to please us...
(certainly a area for future discussions) his stance on his
expertise is now changing - he claims to do 200 houses a year
but all of a sudden our DOOR FRAMES became very difficult for
him to work with since they were unusual (not normal) which is not
true based on my limited experience with door frames and of couse
he did not realize how difficult those beams would be to cover properly
etc. etc. etc.

Have any of you out there every dealth with this firm ?

Any interesting experiences you would care to pass on or better
yet do any of you know of good sheet metal (Alum.) workers who do
GOOD jobs covering A shaped beams and door frames ?

The vinyl part is OK but the Aluminum work is very poor quality work !!!

    Bob Sheehan does residential siding.  I have seen this guy's work and 
    it is outstanding!  He pays close attention to detail work, and does 
    everything precisely.  He'll be glad to show you some houses he has
    done if you're interested in seeing his work.

    I only wish I knew about Bob when my house was sided!

    There are many, many shoddy contractors out there; it is refreshing
    to see someone who does a great job!

I am looking into adding a garage and upgrading my screen porch.
At the same time I want to remove the asbestos cement siding from the
house (as it can not be matched on the new structures), and apply vinyl
siding.

I am looking for a contractor to do the vinyl siding and would like to hear
of any recent experiences and recommendations.

I have already looked in note 2032, but it is all ancient history.  However
replies should probably go there.

Mr. Moderator,  if you feel this base note should also go under note 2032
feel free to move it there.

    Has anyone had any experience with Barrett Siding and Remodeling of
    Fitchburg MA?  I am considering them for replacement windows, vinyl
    siding and replacing my roof.  I know of a couple recent jobs they 
    have done, but would like some feedback from some previous work, to 
    see how their work holds up.

I'm looking for a recommendation for someone who has experience vinyl siding
over asbestos shingles, in the Leominster area.  Quality is most important,
cost is second.

I am in the process of getting quotes for having my house vinyl sided.
I live in Marlborough MA and would be interested to hear from anyone 
in the area who has recently had this work done to their house, with 
comments on the contractors they used.

Any other tips or recommendations would be gratefully received.

    I would like to recommend Steve Rothburg, Ultra Siding and Windows of
    Hudson, MA.  I received 4 bids and Steve's was the lowest.  Steve's
    work is excellent.  He was on the job every day with his assistant, and
    cleaned up at the end of each day.
    
    The detail work he does was impressive, especially around window frames
    with the aluminum cladding.  Steve's quote was for a house wrap, but,
    at my request, he used foil-backed styrofoam for no additional charge.
    
    Steve also put in a new steel door, three replacement windows, and some
    storm windows. 
    
    I checked Steve's references and those supplied echo'ed my experience.
    
    After the job was complete and paid for, Steve came back at my request
    to fix a couple minor things without a problem.

    familiar with towns such as Leicester, Spencer, all the Brookfields and
    even knows where Cherry Valley is :^}

    Just thought I'd update my "request for a siding contractor."
    
    Gene Scott of Scotts Siding is a very easy person to work with.
    They just finished up my 30sq job.  I got a good price and a job
    well done.  Infact I have a window on back order and he said he'd send
    someone up as soon as the window came in to finish up the trim work
    around it.
    
    The only problem I had was trying to keep ahead of the siding crew
    when finishing up areas to be covered!!

  I would *NOT* recommend using Dean's Siding and Windows, Nashua NH, for any
 work. He does roofing, skylights, gutters, siding, doors.

  On Oct 15th my parents contracted Dean Donnell to replace a roof on their
 home. They paid him for half the job up front, with the remainder to be
 paid upon completion.

  The check was cashed and cleared a couple of days later. About a week later
 he dropped off some materials (worth about 1/3rd of what they paid him).

  It is now 2 months later and he has not returned. After repeated attempts
 by my parents to get him to respond or return the money, they have filed a
 claim in small claims court with the hopes that they can recover the money.

  At this point, it looks as though they will never see their money, nor will
 they have the roof they wanted installed before winter.

    I'm sure this is a nightmare for your poor parents, but isn't the
    weather a factor here?  I had good intentions of getting some exterior
    painting done this fall but I don't think there was a single dry
    week for the siding to dry out.  I'd imagine that the contractor was
    very backed up, although he should at least offer an explanantion and a
    refund.

    I am planning to have someone to put up vinyl siding and replacement
    windows in spring. Our house is in Medford, Mass (5-miles N of Boston).
    Does anyone have good recommendation for v_siding/window contractor(s)
    in that general area (arround rt128 bell) ?

    Has anyone had experience with First Choice Construction in Peabody/Beverly
    ? The owner Chad is coming to bid on a vinyl siding, replacement windows 
    and porch-rebuilding job.
