I've dealt with B & S Locksmiths in Northern Nashua that did some
work for me while I lived in Merrimack. I was happy with their
work and their prices were reasonable.

I've dealt with B & S Locksmiths in Northern Nashua that did some

| I had a good experience with Nashoba Lock, in Ayer, to change deadbolt
locks at my condo in Acton. I wanted to replace one deadbolt and
add another with the same key.
The man I spoke with, Leo Carpenter, asked relevant questions on the
phone about the doors, frames, and the existing lock. His estimate
was $70 per lock including labor. He arrived promptly, and on
inspecting the lock, recommended changing only the cylinder, which
he said he could do and still key to the same key as the new lock.
I wouldn't have known that he could do that. That ended up saving
me money; the total bill was $106.43 (rather than the expected $140).
He was done quickly, and asked for a broom to clean up after himself.
I was impressed. He checked every key in each lock before finishing,
and asked me to check them also. The work looks quite good. I
recommend him!
I phoned a few other places before calling him. One other locksmith
(Whitmarsh) it turns out has more than one business name (Whitmarsh
lock in Maynard, and Acton lock), so I ended up talking with him twice.
He didn't ask questions about the kind of door or frame or the existing
lock. His estimate was $35 flat service call fee, $45/lock for
installation, and $30-$100+ per lock, depending which lock I were to
choose. He recommended one at about $60/lock. Note that his estimate
was $125 for the labor before adding the cost of the locks, and
that he didn't ask as many questions about what kind of work was
involved. Carpenter told us that he had had a call from a woman
in Concord about a lockout once; he had told her to call someone
closer, because he would have to charge at least $70 because of
the distance from Ayer. She called Whitmarsh and didn't ask the
rate, assuming it would be less; he charged her $185. So there
is a negative recommendation.

I just had Middlesex Exterminators "do" my house in Billerica.
They have offices in Woburn, Lowell, and other places. They
came when they said, applied a less-toxic chemical inside (all
floorboards upstairs, downstairs, and basement/crawlspaces...)
and a more-toxic chemical outside around the perimeter, porch,etc.
They were mid-price of all those I called. They guarantee the
application for one year and will do the follow-on year at half
price....

I had a similar experience with Whitmarsh. Just to let you all
know that somethings never change!
