We had very good luck with Nick's Rug in Framingham.  Unlike most of 
the other places (able, Warehouse, etc) that ran like a auto 
dealership.  Jeff (the owner of Nick's) is very laid back and helpful. 
Sent us home with many different sample books until we settled on a 
few choices, then ordered larger samples for us of those particular 
colors so we could verify our choices.   did both the pickup and the 
install when we wanted.  and was rerasonably priced.  He's right on 
route 9.  across and down 1/2 block from finally michael's

    Sounded like a guarded recommendation, which is appropriate. Like
    Spag's, National has everything under the sun (for carpetting),
    and generally good prices, but ignorance can burn you. I've gotten
    good buys on materials, and others have told me that their
    installations are good.

    We have used Beacon Carpet. They have(had) stores in Newton and
    Peabody. They carry lots of remnants and better grade carpets as
    they do a lot of "doctor's offices" etc. Some years ago, before
    the Burber craze hit, they were one of very few palces that carried
    any Burber. They also have a lot of 100% wool!
    
    They also seemed to get a few odd things in - commercial carpets
    that ended up the wrong color, etc. They used to have some real
    bargains - if you could use the color or pattern.
    
    The Peabody store is open till 9pm every night - and is the place
    for bargains. They will also bind sections to make area rugs ...
    and they install in MASON, NH!
    
    PS - anyone able to compare Nick's and Peabody?

    I bought a 7 year old split entry ranch with totally abused carpets.
    I had Stanley Steemer come in on a 5 area special $89.95, last 
    Saturday.  It took them a hour, moving furniture and all.  No Kidding!
    Even if the supermarket machines did as well, I would not have done
    it that fast myself!  I remember it took me all weekend to do my
    2 room apartment!  They also have evening and weekend schedules.

    You might try  Bill Freer in West Springfield.  I know he has installed
    carpet in the Worc. area.  His work is high quality.  And when he
    priced a job for me he beat Rotmans and they were having a sale.

	I recently have installed carpet in my house, the
contractor had done a very good job and have excellent price.
He can carpet a live and hall for $279 based upon 30 sq yards,
the price include carpet and installations. He also have free

     We just had the carpet replaced in our entire house and I'd 
like to recommend the installer. Ted Kamberidis of TK Carpet did 
and EXCELLENT job. He did 7 rooms including closets and stairs 
and his price was very reasonable.

Ted works out of the So. NH area and is willing to travel, 
although I'm not sure how far.

    If you're considering Boston, you should consider Watertown.
    
    I'd recommend Bon Ton.  Call for a price.  If you bring the rugs
    in and pick them up, they give you 20% off their price.
    
    You might also call a rug dealer in your area and see if they recommend
    anyone.  Their opinions aren't always trustworthy (you never know
    when they are recommending their brother or whatever) but it's a
    place to start.

    If it's a quality Oriental, it should be cleaned by someone who
    knows 'em.  I have my life savings in Orientals and I take mine
    to Brookline Oriental Rugs in Needham, about a mile off 128.

    You can try Steven Hsu in Worcester area.  He can give you good
    quality carpet, padding, and installation and save you 20-30%.

I highly recommend Jean Coutuowner/installer Century Carpet, .  He installed
all of our carpets and linoleum.  He did an exemplary job of both, (I'M PICKY).
He carries most brands and is very knowledgable in both carpet and lino.  He
was very helpful to us in making our decisions.  His prices were extremely
competitive.  He demostrated a great deal of flexibility for scheduling and
showed up ON TIME.  He has a very positive attitude and demostrates pride in
his workmanship.  He has very few geographical boundries.  Give him a call and

    I just had the people at "Costa & Chaves Floor Covering"
    install ceramic tile in my kitchen and they put down the carpeting
    in my living room. They did and excellent job. I would definitely
    recommend them. They were very reasonable with prices.
    They also do linoleum. Give them a try.....they are located in Hudson....

    Just had two rooms re-carpeted by Rick Spahl of Webster Ma.  He deals
    directly with a mill in Georgia and can save you considerable $$$ on
    the carpet by buying direct with no middle-man.  I estimated he saved
    me around $5-$7 dollars a square yard on the carpet we used (I compared
    with Rotmans of Worc.).  He only works weekends but the quality of both
    the carpet and the installation are well worth it.
    He is willing to travel and backs his work 100%.

    We had bought carpeting from Westford Custom Floors for our family room
    and study (adjoining rooms). Although their initial installation work was 
    excellent; their customer service after installation (and payment) for
    resolving a carpet defect problem has been terrible.
    
    Unfortunately, even though the carpet mill (Queen Carpet) is willing to 
    warrantee the carpet (a Monsanto Weardated nylon), they rely upon the 
    retailer/installer to handle the warrantee claim process.

    This is an update on a note I posted earlier for a carpet installer
    named Jim Guilmette from Salem, NH.  This past weekend, he and his 2
    brothers did a large carpet installation job at my Father's-in-Law
    condo.  Pad and carpet were installed in a large living room area,
    stairs, and upstairs hall.  We also had the pad changed in a spare
    bedroom and the old carpet was re-installed.
    
    Jim also installed vinyl flooring in the kitchen and half-bath.  This
    included putting down quarter-inch plywood as a sub-floor for the
    inlaid.
    
    The three of them showed up at 8 AM as agreed and were finished by 1
    PM.  They did a beautiful job!
    
    Jim lives in Salem, NH, and works in the greater So. NH area.  His number

    I used Garnham to replace the carpeting in my house in 1992/1993 (I
don't remember exactly which year). My advice is to make sure that you
read the warranty carefully.

    I recommend Mahfuz and Sons on 101A in Amherst. They did some work 
    for us last year and we were very happy with their level of
    professionalism and attention to detail. The owner (Alec? Alex?)
    even came to our house once the installation was complete to make
    sure that it'd been done right and we were happy with it. We were
    and still are ;-)
